Writing again...

After pretty much an 18 month break from writing music, i'm writing music again. No more hip hop backing tracks, trying to write music that is "main stream", it's just me, my guitar, my voice and my harmonica.

I have 3 songs that don't have lyrics and 4 songs completely finished with lyrics. The lot took me 2 weeks to write and I have plenty more on the way.

Unlike when I was trying to get work as a hip hop producer (and investing way to much of myself into it), I don't expect a career writing songs, I just write music for something to do when I'm by myself and I love it. It's also nice to write entire songs on guitar, because unlike producing backing tracks, you can actually hear the final product and through the lyrics I can express my ideas, thoughts etc.

more on this later,
Richard

Ballina

I stayed in Ballina for 4 days, it was quite nice. Met a couple of nice girls from Holland at the Hostel and got ones email address, she said when I go to Amsterdam I should email her. I'm really starting to make some contacts overseas, it's great.

Had some great conversations with other people too from the hostel, so I had a good time.

Trip to Nimbin

After Byron Bay I decided to go to Nimbin. I thought it was interesting, though much smaller than I thought it would be. It's the kind of place that you'd spend the afternoon, not the night, unless of course you like to smoke dope, then it would be much more interesting.

Nimbin is a pot head paradise and more about smoking weed than creating a community for alternative lifestyles. I was asked if I wanted to buy weed 10 times in the first hour I was there. It's just how it is in Nimbin, they see a backpacker and think that they might make some cash.
Unfortunatly there are more dero's than hippies, and the hippies that are there are dero's anyway :(

Still I think Nimbin is worth seeing, it's pretty interesting and there's nothing else like it in Australia. I went to the Austalian Hemp Embassy :) and checked out the Rainbow cafe.

Byron Bay

Byron bay is one of the most beautiful places in Australia, i'm very glad that I went.
The first night I stayed at the Backpackers Inn, which is on the beach. The room I was in was smelly and the staff were unhelpful, so I decided to stay at Cape Byron YHA. Very happy now.
The place is nice and they let you borrow bicycles and body boards for free.

So today I went to the gym, then I went for a ride to a lighthouse and afterwards I bought some pants that were hand woven, so I can fit in better with the hippies here. After that I had a veggie burger and had a little rest down at the beach for about an hour. It was a really good day

Below are pictures from my view point when I was lying down on the grass at the beach, it was a warm, sunny day.

After this I think i'll go to Nimbin and check out hippy land.
Bye for now,
Richard
here are some more pics -

Second journey

After my first journey through the country sides of victoria and the Greenpeace action I did in on the Eraring power station (south of Newcastle), I had a break from travelling. I got my passport and sorted things out, then Greenpeace booked a flight for me to go to court.

Court was fun, though I was convicted with a trespass charge (remaining on enclosed grounds). So I will appeal the conviction (so I can work overseas without hastles).

After court, I stayed at my friend Sam's house in the Blue Mountains with another friend that I met on my way, Jacob, who is a guy from Nebraska and into hiking and camping. We went hiking for a few days and then I stayed at a really nice backpackers place called the flying fox, where I met a new friend, Camilla. Below is a photo of one of the waterfalls in the Blue Mountains, pretty amazing place...

After the blue Mountains I went to sydney for two days, then caught a plane to the Gold Coast to stay with my Dad for two weeks.

I had a great time catching up with them all up in Queensland. We went to dreamworld and I went to the gym every second day.

Jenna and I also did some house sitting for the first week, this is us not knowing what we are doing...
video

On my last day, I went sky diving from 14,000 ft. Which was also quite fun. Will try to upload my video when I get to a PC.

That's all for this section, after this trip I decided to go to Byron Bay, which is something that I've wanted to do for a very long time

over and out,

Richard
